Day 1 - Colombo Airport – Kandy

Arrival in Colombo & Journey to Kandy

Arrive at Colombo International Airport.
Meet the airport representative and designated guide from Esna Holidays.
After completing the airport formalities, proceed in an air-conditioned vehicle towards Kandy.
En-route, visit Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage.

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage

Located approximately 90 KM from Colombo towards Kandy.
The orphanage is home to around 100 or more elephant orphans.
Visitors can observe the elephants during regulated feeding and bathing times.
Feeding times are 9:15 AM, 1:15 PM and 5:00 PM.
Bathing times are from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon and from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
The experience offers an opportunity to observe and interact with the elephants within the regulated visiting arrangements.

Spice Garden

Visit a Sri Lankan spice and herbal garden.
Explore herbs and plants including Sandalwood, Margosa, Cocoa, Citronella, Almond, Jasmine and Coconut.
Learn about the cultivation of cloves, pepper, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon and saffron.
Discover the medicinal properties of spices and herbs and their use in everyday needs.
Spices have been valued for their healing properties since the time of the Pharaohs and Chinese Dynasties, while herbs are used in Ayurvedic concoctions.

Temple of the Sacred Tooth

Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth, also known as Sri Dalada Maligawa.
Originally built by the Kandyan Kings in 1595 to house and honor the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha.
The temple features intricate carvings reflecting the architectural values of Kandy.
The temple attracts white-clad pilgrims carrying lotus flowers for worship.
Kandy is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in part because of the Temple of the Tooth relic.
